The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing replay technology.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players will gain the ability to challenge particular calls made by the chair umpire, following the practice already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step arrives only a season following the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the longstanding role of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, including:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
A recent example occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at all of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
