Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities mentioned they were alerted by a resident who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

A senior political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
